| AAGC ANNUAL Definitive plans are coming together for the annual AAGC conference that will be held in Huntsville, Alabama. Paul D. Slocumb, Ed.D. co-author of Removing the Mask: Giftedness in Poverty from aha! Process, Inc. will provide an all-day pre-conference lab on June 4. Based on this book, he provides training on identifying and serving gifted students from poverty, as well as a range of other topics in gifted education. There is no doubt that this year's theme, Looking for Giftedness in all the Right Places, will be enhanced by Dr. Slocumb's participation and contributions. Keynote speaker for the conference will be Dr. Mary Frasier, from the University of Georgia. Dr. Frasier is a noted speaker and prolific writer on the subjects of identifying and serving gifted children of diverse cultures. Sharing the podium will be Dr. Carol Tieso of the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa.Lee Magnet High School for the Performing Arts is the 2002 conference location. Located close to I-565, Lee High School is very accessible and convenient for out-of-town travelers. Every conference depends on the strength, commitment, and interest of its membership; the AAGC is no different. Included in this newsletter is the Call for Proposals for the 2002 conference. Please thoughtfully consider submitting a presentation proposal. As current practitioners, you know and understand the needs and interests of your students and parents. Please re-examine some of your favorite practices, ideas, and tips and share them with your fellow AAGC members. Topics that have been winners in the past (you might have a new slant or aha you could share) are: talent pools, service delivery options, looking for giftedness, state/community resources, interdisciplinary units, fund raising, staff development and a host of others.
