AAGC IS NOW ON THE WEB!!

by Shirley Farrell

As of January 3, 2000 AAGC has a web site.
Currently on the site, you will find the AAGC purpose, a list of board members, network regions (which still needs more work), a counter, a guest book and a way to email me about the page.

There are big plans for the web page. The newsletter will be online. Conference information and the call for proposals will be online, as well as contests and grant applications. We will have membership applications and a special section for parents to join both NAGC and AAGC at the same time. Also we will have links to gifted areas on the web in addition to other cool web links from my Surfin The Net with Gifted book.

I need information, pictures, dates, etc. to add to our page. If you have something you feel would be a nice addition, please let me know. We would also like to have a calendar section with dates of competitions in which gifted classes may compete, i.e., Elementary Science Olympiad, Science Olympiad, Scholars Bowl, Future Problem Solving, etc.

What suggestions do you have or what would you like to see on the AAGC web site. Visit the web site and email me to let me know. Please sign the guest book when you visit. I have everyone that sent an email with their membership in my address book. We can send notes and reminders to you about various things through the email. If you have not sent your email to AAGC yet, please do so. We are moving into the technology age full speed ahead.

Nicholas Green Distinguished Student Award

AAGC is proud to have represented NAGC in presenting the Nicholas Green Distinguished Student Award to Milner Owens, a seventh grader at Mountain Brook Junior High School. This award is given to students based on outstanding accomplishment in academics, athletics, arts or leadership.

Suzanne Mann nominated Miss Owens last year at Crestline Elementary. Mrs. Mann says she nominated Milner because of the drive she has for seeking and sharing knowledge. Information provided by Mrs. Mann and a composition written by Miss Owens were used in the selection process by NAGC. We are proud to have been given the opportunity to present this award to such a well deserving student. Congratulations Milner! We wish you luck in your continued endeavors.

State organizations have the option of conducting a statewide competition from which they select finalists that are then sent in to NAGC for the National Competition. AAGC has not yet established a state level for the Nicholas Green Distinguished Student Award, but we anticipate this as a goal for the future. Until that time we encourage members to contact NAGC for information on how to nominate exemplary students for this distinguished award.

AAGC Regional Networks

by Laura Rose

Several of you spoke to me at the summer conference about your desire to see your network become more active. Some of you were even willing to help with your network. Please contact me to refresh my memory if you were one of those people who I spoke with this summer. Also, if you are willing to chair one of the following networks, please let me know. We need AAGC members to step up to these leadership roles. To see the counties or school districts of these networks, please click on them.

  • Network 3 (Shelby County)
  • Network 7 (Southeastern)
